My name is Akilah, and I studied English Literature and Creative Writing in graduate school. I’m out of school now and working a Real Job, but my love of reading has not waned.

Englishist is a word I coined in response to one of my friends who is an engineer. Whenever we would have debates, she would call on her authority as a scientist if the occasion called for it, so one day I jokingly called on my authority as an Englishist, and I’ve been using the term ever since.

Please see the courses page for an idea of what my literature courses have focused on in the past. I have also taught composition classes, and while I have come up with some nifty assignments, those classes have not involved me choosing novels, so I didn’t include an outline of them.

This is my book blog where I catalog the books I’m reading and what I think about them.  Unless otherwise specified, I either bought the books or got them from the library.
